Americas system to limit government
Our founding fathers created a system to limit our government. Most people ask, how did they do this? They used many different principals and documents from other government to form the best possible system. Although some people think limited government is not necessary, limited government is very useful because it doesn’t let the government have a lot of power, it gives people more rights, and it takes longer to make new laws.
The United States Constitution is the main way that our founding fathers limited our government. To make the constitution they held meetings called continental congress (Richard Remy pg. 65). At these meetings they discussed what the laws should be and tried to find the best things about Britain’s government to make ours better by adding things that Britain’s government was missing. They didn’t like the way that Britain’s government was so strong that the people had no say. So our founding fathers made our constitution around the people. Some people don’t see the constitution this way. They see it as it is giving the government more power. They think listing the powers gives the government more of them. Those people need to realize that listing the governments powers give them less. Without listing the powers the government could do anything it wonted. To prevent that from happening, our fathers used English heritage documents to give people more
rights.
Some people believe that America was built on lies and propaganda
(according to website called love us hate us). Those people that believe this think that a country built on unstable foundation such as this will always fail. Others believe that our country is run by Jewish people. Then there are those who say we are blinded by our greed for oil. They believe that America invades in other countries business to try to “help” but end up hurting that country. None of this is true. These people simply miss read Americas actions.
Our country was not built on lies and propaganda. We fought for freedom against Great Britain (a superpower at the time) and we won. That is how our country was made. Not from lies or propaganda. Our countries foundation is based off of hard work and compromise as shown by the Revolutionary War. The population ofpeople of the Jewish religion in America is only about 3%. How can the country be ruled by Jewish people if our country has hardly any living in it? It isn’t possible. Some even say that for having religious freedom why don’t we have many Jewish or Muslim people. We gladly accept those that want to come to America. We have nothing against them. It’s as simple as that. Our constitution even has in it documents that were used for other older governments; this gives America a better view of other countries and there believes.
In the constitution some of the ideas in it are from English Heritage documents. Those are documents that Britain had for their government. These documents are the Magna Carta, English Bill of Rights, and the Petition of rights. The Magna Carta is where our founding fathers got the idea of limited government (Richard Remy). What the Magna Carta did was limit the power of Britain’s king. This kept him changing laws to his will whenever he wanted. This was incorporated into our constitution. The English Bill of Rights listed rights that the people had. We have this in the constitution as our Bill of
Rights. We changed those rights and added more giving our people more rights. The Petition of Rights gave even more rights to the people. Our constitution incorporates all three of these documents in order to give people the most rights and freedoms possible.
The constitution of the United States incorporates six government principles; therefore our government is structured around these principles (Richard Remy). The first of these principles is supremacy of national law. What this means is that the federal government is over the state governments. This keeps any state from being too powerful. The second principle is popular sovereignty. This is the people ruling throw leaders we elect to represent us. Federalism is another principle. Federalism is when our government is divided between strong national government and smaller state governments that both act to protect the people. Separation of powers splits our government into the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branches. The Legislative branch is made by
congress (House of Representatives and senate). Their main job it to makes the laws. The Executive branch is made up by the president. The Executive branches main job is to enforce the laws made by the Legislative branch. Then the Judicial branch is made by the Supreme Court. Their main job is to interpret the
laws that are made. Our system of checks and balances lets each of the three branches have some power over the other two to keep any one branch from becoming too powerful and ruling the others. A few examples of each branches power over the others is the Executive branch has over the Legislative is being able to veto or reject laws. The Legislative then has the power to pass the law over the Executive branch and make a law. The last principle is judicial review which lets the supremecourt declare some government acts to be unconstitutional and not allow them to be carried out.
A lot of people see the United States as a bad country and do not like us. They think we give our people to many rights and that makes our government weak. But those rights only limit the government, not make it weak. Those rights give every person a chance to grow and become accomplished. These people that
grow, because of the rights we give them, become part of the government. That makes or government stronger and more sustained. Our founding fathers not only created a system that limits the government, but one that also gives it its power.
